Matt Nelson

Matt is the founder and director of Point One Sports Management, a full service firm specializing in representation and management of professional athletes since 2004. With a focus on scouting, development, and training, Matt brings a unique approach to the industry providing valuable tools to the current and aspiring pro athlete. Extensive basketball experience combined with business management strategies prepare his clients by putting them in a position to succeed. With a good sense for contracts, negotiations, and player placement, Point One has earned the reputation of a high quality full service sports management firm.

After graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science/Sports Medicine, Matt began his career in professional sports in 1992 as the assistant trainer for the Albuquerque Dukes, the Triple A minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He worked with notable players including Pedro Martinez, Mike Piazza, Eric Young, Tom Goodwin, and Pedro Astacio.

Matt has operated in a number of different roles in the sports and entertainment industry and has also played basketball internationally with stints in Mexico, Canada, the Philippines, and Africa. He served as a part time scout with the Houston Rockets during their championship seasons and has done sports marketing for Coca-Cola. Matt has also worked with premier physical therapy facilities and trained athletes such as Hakeem Olajuwon, Vernon Maxwell, PGA golfer Billy Ray Brown, and Olympic sprinter Leroy Burrell.

Point One specializes in all types of basketball contract negotiations including NBA, Minor League (NBA D-League, CBA), and FIBA certified international deals for its players.
